Abstract

Introduction: Factors affecting the re-hospitalization of heart failure patients are non-compliance with therapy, non-compliance with fluids and non-compliance with the diet. Treatment adherence, dietary control (fluid restriction) and weight weighing are part of self-care management. This study aims to improve the ability of heart failure patients in self-care management. Methods: Literature reviews were used to identify potential articles: Scopus, ProQuest, PubMed, and CINAHL databases from 2016 to 2022. Inclusion criteria were open access, English, and full-text articles published in journals between 2016 and 2022 with the keywords “ self-regulation”, “protection motivation theory”, “heart failure. A total of fifteen articles were reviewed to answer the research questions. Data is analyzed by PRISMA flowcharts. Results: Only 15 articles met the inclusion criteria. There were 9 randomized controlled trial studies and 6 cross-sectional studies. The results suggest that better self-care can improve the condition of heart failure patients, reduce recurrent hospitalizations and ease the burden of care. Self-efficacy in predicting self-care behavior. Conclusion: This study informs that self-regulation is significantly related to self-management behavior. Self-regulation programs can effectively improve self-care behaviors in patients with heart failure
