Abstract

This research aims to analyze the characteristics of Progressive Islam in building tolerance in Muhammadiyah educational institutions, especially at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ngawi. Through a qualitative approach with case study methods, this research focuses on an in-depth understanding of the characteristics of superior human resources within the framework of Progressive Islam and how tolerance is built in the school environment. The results of the study show that superior human resources in Progressive Islam have five main characteristics: monotheism, adhering to the Qur'an and Sunnah, living ijtihad and tajdid, developing wasathiyah attitudes, and realizing the principle of rahmatan lil'alamin. Tolerance for superior human resources is developed through inclusive education, interfaith dialogue, character building, and the use of technology. This research offers insights into strategies to strengthen tolerance in Islamic educational institutions through the Progressive Islamic approach.
