Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disorder associated with various factors, including a high-purine diet is closely linked to lifestyle transitions and high purine consumption. However, short-term dietary clinical trials monitoring peri-prandial changes, particularly among healthy youth, remain highly scarce. The purpose of this study was to compare the uric acid levels of students at Universitas 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta (UNISA) before and eight hours after ingesting high-purine diet using the Point of Care Test (POCT) and photometer methodologies. one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. 32 current Medical Laboratory Technology students from the 2022 cohort were chosen for the study using total sampling. The results of the analysis showed a difference in uric acid levels before and after the intervention for both methods. For the POCT method, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test was used, yielding a p-value of < 0.001, while for the photometer method, a paired t-test was used, yielding a t-value of 10.345, df = 15, and a p-value of < 0.001). In conclusion, was followed by a significant increase in uric acid levels within 8 hours within 8 hours, even among healthy young adults, emphasizing the need for targeted dietary awareness.
