Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health problem significantly high disease burden. The GeneXpert Molecular Rapid Test is a diagnostic method capable of rapidly detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and rifampicin resistance. Patient characteristics may be associated with MTB detection and rifampicin status. To analyze the association between GeneXpert molecular rapid test result and patient characteristics among suspected tuberculosis patient tuberculosis patients at dr. Tjitrowardojo Hospital, Purworejo, in 2025. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using medical record data from 606 suspected TB patients who underwent GeneXpert testing from January to December 2025. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square, Fisher’s Exact Test, and Likelihood Ratio tests with significance level of p<0,05. MTB was detected in 97 patients (16,0%) and not detected in 509 patients (84,0%). Rifampicin-sensitive TB was identified in 94 patients (96,9%), while rifampicin-resistant TB was found in 3 patients (3,1%). Age group (p<0,001), DM (p<0,001), and HIV comorbidity (p<0,001) were significantly associated with MTB detection. Sex was not signiassociated with MTB detection (p=0,671). No significant association was found between patient characteristics and rifampicin status (p>0,05). Age group, DM, and HIV were significantly associated with GeneXpert MTB results, whereas sex was not. None of the studied patient characteristics were associated with rifampicin resistance status.
