Abstract

The increasing use of social media has intensified exposure to food-related content, particularly mukbang and food vlogging, which may influence eating behavior and food choice through visual stimulation, social modeling, and food cravings among university students. This study aimed to analyze the relationship of mukbang and food vlogging exposure with binge eating behavior and food choice among students at the Faculty of Health, Universitas Mitra Indonesia. A quantitative analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 93 students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires measuring mukbang exposure, food vlogging exposure, binge eating behavior, and food choice practices. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05. Most respondents had high exposure to mukbang (55.9%) and food vlogging (53.8%), moderate binge eating behavior (60.2%), and good food choice practices (86.0%). Significant relationships were found between mukbang exposure and binge eating behavior (p=0.007), mukbang exposure and food choice practices (p=0.010), food vlogging exposure and binge eating behavior (p=0.030), and food vlogging exposure and food choice practices (p=0.017). Exposure to mukbang and food vlogging content was significantly associated with binge eating behavior and food choice among students in the Faculty of Health. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening nutrition and digital media literacy to promote healthier eating behaviors. Future longitudinal studies are recommended to clarify causal relationships.
