Abstract

Background: The issue of underweight nutrition in infants remains a serious challenge, with a relatively high prevalence in Jember District, particularly in the Sumberjambe Health Center service area, where 16.3% (667 infants) have underweight nutritional status. One of the efforts to address the issue of underweight status is the provision of Taburia micronutrient supplements. Taburia is a micronutrient supplement containing essential vitamins and minerals such as zinc, iron, vitamin A, vitamin B1, B6, and vitamin C, which play a crucial role in enhancing appetite, strengthening the immune system, and supporting optimal metabolism and growth in infants. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of administering Taburia micronutrient supplements on weight gain in underweight infants aged 6–24 months in the Sumberjambe Health Center service area. Method: This is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental design with a pre- and post-test one-group design. The sampling technique used probability sampling with cluster sampling. The study sample consisted of 30 underweight infants in Gunung Malang Village and Plereyan Village. Results: Before receiving the Taburia micronutrient supplement, 16.7% (5 infants) had a weight in the lowest interval, 6.5–6.9 kg. After the intervention, the proportion of infants with that weight decreased to 3.3% (1 infant), while infants with a weight of 9.0-9.4 kg increased from 13.3% (4 infants) to 26.7% (8 infants). The results of the Paired T-Test yielded a P-Value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that there is an effect of consuming the Taburia micronutrient supplement on increasing the weight of underweight infants aged 6–24 months in the Sumberjambe Health Center service area. Conclusion: Administration of Taburia micronutrient supplementation twice daily for 30 days resulted in 80% of underweight toddlers experiencing an increase in body weight. The intervention was accompanied by parental nutrition education. Recommendation: Taburia supplementation may be recommended as a nutritional intervention for underweight toddlers and should be accompanied by parental nutrition education to support adequate nutritional intake and healthy growth
