AbstractAsthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the respiratory tract characterized by bronchial hyperresponsiveness, resulting in airway narrowing that causes symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and breathing pattern disturbances. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to improve breathing patterns in patients with asthma is Buyteco Breathing Therapy. This technique aims to control breathing patterns, reduce hyperventilation, and improve respiratory function. Previous studies have reported beneficial effects of Buyteco Breathing Therapy on respiratory parameters and asthma control; however, documentation of its application as a nursing intervention for pediatric patients with asthma experiencing ineffective breathing patterns remains limited, particularly in the context of hospital-based nursing care. This case study aimed to describe the application of Buyteco Breathing Therapy in two pediatric patients with asthma and ineffective breathing patterns in the Pediatric Ward of RSUD Jenderal Ahmad Yani Metro, Lampung, in 2025. This Final Professional Nursing Scientific Paper employed a case study design involving two pediatric patients diagnosed with asthma and experiencing the nursing problem of ineffective breathing pattern. Case management was carried out through the nursing process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Buyteco Breathing Therapy was administered for three consecutive days, and observations were made of respiratory rate, use of accessory respiratory muscles, and signs of respiratory distress. Before the intervention, Client 1 experienced shortness of breath with a respiratory rate of 36 breaths per minute, nasal flaring, chest wall retractions, and wheezing. Client 2 had a respiratory rate of 32 breaths per minute accompanied by nasal flaring, chest wall retractions, and wheezing. After three days of Buyteco Breathing Therapy, improvements in breathing patterns were observed, indicated by decreased respiratory rate, reduced use of accessory respiratory muscles, decreased wheezing, and increased comfort during breathing. The application of Buyteco Breathing Therapy was associated with improvements in breathing patterns in the two pediatric patients with asthma experiencing ineffective breathing patterns. This therapy may be used as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention to support asthma management in children.
