AbstractMultilingualism plays a crucial role in shaping Indonesian youth’s cultural and communicative identities in the context of globalization. However, existing studies tend to emphasize formal education settings, leaving a limited understanding of personal multilingual practices and attitudes in everyday contexts. This study aims to explore the multilingual practices and attitudes of Indonesian youth across social, educational, and digital domains. Using a qualitative approach through semi- structured interviews analyzed thematically (Braun & Clarke, 2006), the study reveals four major themes: multilingualism as a social inevitability, dominance of Indonesian and English, challenges in preserving local languages, and the dual role of education and social media in language practice. The findings indicate that multilingualism reflects both global influence and regional identity, requiring inclusive educational and sociolinguistic approaches to sustain linguistic diversity and equity. |
