CONTEXTUAL PARADIGM IN INDONESIAN TAFSIR: A HERMENEUTICAL EXAMINATION OF DAWAM RAHARDJO’S ENSIKLOPEDI AL-QUR’AN
AbstractThis study raises the theme of contextualization of Dawam Rahardjo’s Ensiklopedi al-Qur’an to photograph how Dawam Rahardjo’s contextual interpretation paradigm and analyze the interpretation of one of the entries on the theme of the Ensiklopedi al-Qur’an perspective contextual interpretation. Through a qualitative research method based on a literature review with the approach of Abdullah Saeed's contextual interpretation theory as the basis for hermeneutics of the Qur'an, the author found two things. First, Dawam Rahardjo’s interpretation paradigm is contextual; this can be seen from Dawam’s opinion, which states that it is very important to see the Koran from the perspective of its revelation context. It is not enough to stop there; the values of the Koran must be internalized in the current Indonesian context as the basis for social and scientific struggles. Second, the application of Dawam Rahardjo’s contextual interpretation can be seen in how Dawam interprets the prohibition of usury. In the context of revelation, added value in debt is prohibited because the debt is an oppressive consumer debt for people with low incomes. Meanwhile, bank interest is not usury because the added value is in productive debt as payment for services for managers and owners of capital from financial institutions protected by law, namely banks. The second evidence of the contextual interpretation of the Al-Quran Encyclopedia is Dawam's interpretation of the term ummah in Surah Ali Imran: 104 as a state, referring to the process of the formation of the Medina Charter and modern reality with the theory of social contracts. |
