This policy is formulated by adapting and referencing Elsevier’s official guidelines on the use of generative artificial intelligence in scholarly publishing, as outlined in Elsevier’s Generative AI Policies for Journals. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies are used ethically, transparently, and responsibly throughout the editorial and publication processes of MUSHAF: Jurnal Tafsir Berwawasan Keindonesiaan. This policy applies to all parties involved in the publication workflow, including authors, reviewers, and editors.
Guidelines for Authors
MUSHAF: Jurnal Tafsir Berwawasan Keindonesiaan permits the use of generative artificial intelligence tools and AI-assisted technologies, provided that such tools are used responsibly and remain under human supervision. Authors must verify the accuracy, completeness, and potential biases of any AI-generated output, including automatically generated references.
Any use of AI tools must be clearly disclosed through a Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted Technologies, specifying the name of the tool, its purpose, and the extent of human review or editing. This declaration should appear in the manuscript before the reference section.
Generative AI tools may not replace the author’s critical reasoning, analytical work, interpretation, or original intellectual contribution. Full responsibility for the content rests with the human author(s), and AI tools must not be credited as authors or co-authors.
The use of AI to create or modify images or illustrations is permissible only when it does not alter the underlying scientific information. If AI forms part of the research methodology, a clear description must be provided in the Methods section.

Guidelines for Reviewers
Reviewers must uphold strict confidentiality for all manuscripts assigned for peer review. They are prohibited from uploading any portion of a manuscript to external generative AI platforms or third-party AI systems, as doing so may violate confidentiality obligations and infringe upon the authors’ copyrights.
Reviewers may not use AI tools to draft or edit their review reports if the process requires uploading confidential manuscript content. Furthermore, AI tools must not be used to assess scientific merit, methodology, or the scholarly contribution of a manuscript. Reviewers remain fully accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and professionalism of their evaluations.
Guidelines for Editors
Editors are responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and must not upload manuscripts, editorial decisions, or any confidential material to external generative AI systems. Scientific assessments and editorial decisions must be made exclusively by human editors and members of the editorial board, not by AI systems.
AI tools may be utilized for limited administrative or technical purposes—such as formatting checks, plagiarism detection, data integrity screening, or reviewer recommendation—provided that these activities remain under human oversight. The final editorial decision and publication responsibility rest solely with the human editors.
