AbstractThis study explores the integration of local wisdom into Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at SDN 43 Malino, focusing on how local Bugis values and Islamic teachings can foster tolerance (tasamuh) among students. The research addresses how the incorporation of local culture within religious education influences character development and the promotion of tolerance in a culturally diverse setting. Using a qualitative approach, the study employed interviews, observations, and documentation to gather data from the school principal, Religious Education Teacher, class teacher, and students. The findings reveal that integrating cultural values such as mapatabe (respect for elders) and sipakatau (mutual respect) into IRE lessons effectively enhanced students' tolerance. Activities like communal prayers, Maulid celebrations, and traditional dances contributed to instilling values of respect and inclusivity. The study suggests that combining local culture with religious education plays a significant role in shaping social behaviour, fostering an inclusive and tolerant school environment. The collaboration between the school and parents was also crucial in supporting this educational approach, emphasising the importance of integrating local wisdom into educational frameworks to build tolerance and character in students.
