Generative AI Policy

JICAI recognises that generative AI tools (such as large language models and image generators) are increasingly used in research and writing. This policy sets out how they may be used in manuscripts and in the editorial process.

Authors

  • Generative AI tools must not be listed as an author. Authorship carries responsibility and accountability that only humans can take.
  • Use of generative AI for drafting, language editing, translation, code generation, or data analysis must be disclosed in the Methods or Acknowledgements section, naming the tool, version, and purpose of use.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the entire manuscript, including AI-assisted content, references, and figures. Fabricated or unverifiable citations are treated as research misconduct.
  • AI-generated or AI-manipulated images and figures must not be used unless they are the subject of the research and are clearly labelled.
  • Basic grammar and spelling checkers do not need to be disclosed.

Reviewers and Editors

  • Manuscripts are confidential. Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts, review reports, or decision letters to public generative AI tools.
  • Review reports must reflect the reviewer's own judgement. AI tools must not be used to produce the evaluation of a manuscript.

Screening

JICAI may screen submissions for undisclosed AI-generated content. Breaches of this policy are handled according to the COPE guidelines and may result in rejection, correction, or retraction.
