JUMPA: Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted tools are increasingly used in academic writing. This policy sets out how such tools may be used by authors, reviewers, and editors, so that transparency, originality, and research integrity are maintained. It follows the COPE position statement on authorship and AI tools.
For Authors
Permitted use. Authors may use AI-assisted tools in a limited way, mainly to improve language and readability (grammar, spelling, paraphrasing for clarity, and translation), and to help format references or visualize data without changing the research findings. All output must be checked and edited by the authors.
Prohibited use. Authors must not use GenAI to:
- produce research data, findings, interview transcripts, or analyses that were not actually obtained by the authors;
- write the substantive scholarly content (arguments, literature review, discussion) without disclosure;
- generate references or citations that are fabricated, inaccurate, or not read by the authors;
- create or manipulate images, figures, or tables presented as research evidence.
Authorship. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of the entire manuscript.
Disclosure Statement
Authors who use GenAI or AI-assisted tools must add a statement in a separate section before the References, titled Declaration of Generative AI Use, for example:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of tool] for [purpose, e.g., language editing]. After using this tool, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take full responsibility for the content of the publication."
A statement is not required for basic spelling or grammar checkers and reference management software (e.g., Mendeley or Zotero).
For Reviewers
Manuscripts under review are confidential. Reviewers must not upload a manuscript, or any part of it, to GenAI tools, and must not use such tools to write the review report. The scientific assessment must be the reviewer's own work.
For Editors
Editors must not upload submitted manuscripts or decision letters to GenAI tools, and must not use them in making editorial decisions. Editors may use similarity-check software and other approved tools to screen manuscripts.
Consequences
Undisclosed or inappropriate use of GenAI may result in rejection of the manuscript or, after publication, a correction or retraction in accordance with the journal's Correction and Retraction policy. This policy will be reviewed periodically as standards in scholarly publishing develop.
