Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Kyai in managing social and cultural modalities and their impact on leadership and building public trust in the pesantren environment. This study uses a qualitative approach to examine how Kyai's social and cultural modalities are applied in strategic leadership, building harmonious relationships with the community, and influencing organizational dynamics in pesantren. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with Kyai, pesantren administrators, and the surrounding community, as well as observations of Kyai's leadership activities. The research findings indicate that the integration of Kyai's social and cultural modalities strengthens public trust, creates an inclusive and adaptive leadership approach, and supports sustainable management of pesantren. This study contributes to the literature on local cultural value-based leadership, especially in the context of pesantren, by highlighting how the role of Kyai is key in creating synergy between leadership, cultural values, and community trust.
