Peer Review Process

Every manuscript submitted to Atthar: Journal of Innovative Islamic Education is assessed through double-blind peer review. The identities of authors and reviewers are withheld from each other throughout the process.

Review Process

  1. Initial screening. The editorial team checks the manuscript for fit with the journal's focus and scope, compliance with the author guidelines, and similarity level. Manuscripts that do not pass this stage are returned to the author without further review.
  2. Reviewer assignment. Manuscripts that pass screening are sent to at least two reviewers with relevant expertise.
  3. Review. Reviewers are normally given four weeks to complete their assessment.
  4. Editorial decision. The editor decides on the basis of the reviewers' recommendations. Where reviewers disagree substantially, a third reviewer may be appointed.
  5. Revision. Authors revise the manuscript in response to the reviewers' comments and submit a point-by-point response.
  6. Final decision. The editor confirms acceptance, requests further revision, or declines the manuscript.

Decisions

  • Accept — the manuscript is accepted as submitted.
  • Accept with revisions — minor changes are required.
  • Resubmit for review — substantial revision is required, after which the manuscript is reviewed again.
  • Decline — the manuscript is not suitable for the journal.

Criteria

Reviewers assess originality and contribution to the field, clarity of the research problem, soundness of method, quality of analysis and argument, adequacy and currency of references, and clarity of writing.
