This statement sets out the ethical conduct expected of all parties involved in publishing with Atthar: Journal of Innovative Islamic Education: authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. It follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Duties of Editors
- Decide which manuscripts to publish on the basis of academic merit alone, without regard to the authors' race, gender, religion, ethnicity, citizenship, or political views.
- Keep information about a submitted manuscript confidential and disclose it only to those involved in the editorial process.
- Decline to handle manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
- Act promptly on credible claims of misconduct, and issue corrections or retractions where warranted.
Duties of Reviewers
- Assess manuscripts objectively and support their judgements with clear reasoning.
- Treat manuscripts as confidential documents and not use their content for personal advantage.
- Notify the editor of any substantial similarity to previously published work.
- Decline the assignment where a conflict of interest exists, or where they lack the expertise or time to complete the review.
Duties of Authors
- Present original work, with the contributions of others properly cited.
- Not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time, and not submit work already published elsewhere.
- List as authors only those who made a substantial contribution to the work, and ensure all listed authors have approved the final manuscript.
- Disclose any financial or other conflict of interest, and all sources of funding.
- Notify the editor promptly on discovering a significant error in published work, and cooperate in correcting or retracting it.
Misconduct
Plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate submission, and improper attribution of authorship are grounds for rejection. Where such conduct is found after publication, the article will be retracted and a notice issued in its place.
